It&rsquo;s even replaced Google when it comes to being consumers&rsquo; #1 search engine of choice when they&rsquo;re looking to buy a new product. In fact, in Jungle Scout&rsquo;s 2020 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/consumer-trends\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consumer Trends Report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, only 10% of respondents* said they do <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">not<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> shop on Amazon.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But, the majority of those shoppers are still buying online. They&rsquo;re just buying from Amazon&rsquo;s competitors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, while it&rsquo;s clearly still a good idea to build a business on Amazon, here&rsquo;s what <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amazon sellers can learn from Amazon&rsquo;s NON-customers<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why don&rsquo;t some consumers shop on Amazon?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For non-Amazon shoppers, the main reason they choose not to frequent the store is their lack of a Prime account.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In other words, 28% are stuck in a cycle of &ldquo;they aren&rsquo;t shopping on Amazon because they don&rsquo;t have a Prime account, yet they&rsquo;re not getting a Prime account because they don&rsquo;t shop on Amazon.&rdquo;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But these consumers also prefer to shop in-store. A quarter of them said they don&rsquo;t buy from Amazon simply because they would rather shop in a physical store.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, a significant portion (23%) said they just don&rsquo;t order from the site.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, some non-Amazon customers do still shop online and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/blog\/reasons-consumers-shop-online\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here&rsquo;s why<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First and foremost, non-Amazon shoppers like the safety and ease that comes with buying online. 25% said it was for the ease of not having to leave home, while 24% said it means being able to avoid public places by shopping at home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And for 17%, shopping online also means access to more product options, which is where third-party sellers can step in.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By listing your products on one or more of Amazon&rsquo;s competitors&rsquo; platforms, you&rsquo;re fulfilling a need for this segment of consumers. And this is what they want.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What non-Amazon shoppers are looking for<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1. Non-Amazon shoppers go for the lowest price<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With 70% of non-Amazon shoppers reporting a household income of less than $50,000 per year, it&rsquo;s no shock that half of those say finding the lowest price is what&rsquo;s most important when they shop.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2. But, they want <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">inexpensive<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, not cheap<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These shoppers aren&rsquo;t willing to buy just any old thing. Nearly half (45%) said that they look for a product with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xdH-rHepkEI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">good ratings and reviews<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3. And feature-filled is a definite plus<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Products with the most impressive features come in third, with 38% saying it&rsquo;s key in their decision to purchase.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4. Faster shipping &mdash; yes and no<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was the &ldquo;reason to buy&rdquo; most shoppers disagreed with, with one in four saying fast delivery wasn&rsquo;t a reason to purchase.&nbsp; Yet 35% still said <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/blog\/fast-shipping-ecommerce-conversions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">getting their parcels more quickly<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> would cause them to click &lsquo;Add to cart&rsquo;.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Non-Amazon shoppers don&rsquo;t search by brand<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though 37% of online shoppers looking for alternatives to Amazon consider themselves to be brand loyal, only 12% said they <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">always<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> look for brand name items.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In fact, 46% said that they&rsquo;ll only buy <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=kZ7OnIAs1SQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">brands online<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> if the branded option is affordable or it&rsquo;s a product that has to be branded (eg. 30% said they only buy brand name electronics).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to electronics, these are the other types of products that non-Amazon shoppers prefer to buy branded:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&lsquo;Grocery&rsquo; &ndash; 25% said they always purchase brand name groceries<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&lsquo;Pet Supplies&rsquo; &ndash; 23%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&lsquo;Clothing&rsquo; and &lsquo;Health &amp; Beauty&rsquo; &ndash; 21%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And these are the items that they will sometimes buy branded:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&lsquo;Clothing&rsquo; &ndash; 56% will occasionally purchase brand name clothing<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&lsquo;Grocery&rsquo; &ndash; 54%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&lsquo;Home &amp; Kitchen&rsquo; &ndash; 52%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&lsquo;Health &amp; Beauty&rsquo; &ndash; 50%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&lsquo;Office Supplies&rsquo; &ndash; 41%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&lsquo;Garden &amp; Outdoors&rsquo; and &lsquo;Arts &amp; Crafts&rsquo; &ndash; 36%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&lsquo;Toys &amp; Games&rsquo; &ndash; 30%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What does this mean for sellers? It means you don&rsquo;t have to worry too much about <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hYjTJ0djxXw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">competing with well-established brands<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, if you&rsquo;ve created a brand known for its quality and have a following on Amazon already, you&rsquo;ll <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/press\/press-releases\/jungle-scout-introduces-cobalt-to-help-enterprise-level-brands-win-on-amazon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">be one or two steps ahead of your competition<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> when you launch on one of Amazon&rsquo;s e-commerce alternatives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Non-Amazon customers on the future of online shopping<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though 54% of shoppers looking for alternatives to Amazon say they can&rsquo;t wait to get back into physical stores (and 48% saying they would <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">not<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> be okay if they couldn&rsquo;t go into brick and mortar stores again), about half of consumers think the majority of consumer shopping will happen online in the future.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"su-note\" style=\"border-color:#d0d0d0;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;\"><div class=\"su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" style=\"background-color:#eaeaea;border-color:#ffffff;color:#333333;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;\">\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>What consumers are saying about their future shopping behaviors:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i>&ldquo;Probably will think twice and not be as impulsive.&rdquo;<br>\n<\/i><i><\/i><i>&ldquo;I will not be so frivolous with purchases in the future.&rdquo;<\/i><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In terms of overall spending after stores reopen, 31% anticipate an increase in their spending. And one in five expect to increase their overall spending by as much as 25%.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For online shopping, the numbers are slightly different. Virtually the same amount of non-Amazon shoppers think they will increase their spending as those who think it will decrease (21% and 20% respectively).&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">36%, on the other hand, think their online spending will stay the same after physical stores reopen. Also, half of non-Amazon shoppers plan to reduce their spending on non-essential items moving forward.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Selling to people who don&rsquo;t shop on Amazon<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Where non-Amazon customers are shopping<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the 10% who say they don&rsquo;t shop on Amazon, their top five alternatives for shopping online are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/blog\/walmart-black-friday-cyber-monday-sales-data\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Walmart.com<\/a>&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/blog\/how-to-sell-on-ebay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">eBay.com<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/Target.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Target.com&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/BestBuy.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BestBuy.com<\/a>&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/HomeDepot.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HomeDepot.com<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And while private label and handmade goods retailer Etsy didn&rsquo;t make the top five<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it still cracked the top 10, sitting at number eight.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"su-note\" style=\"border-color:#d0d0d0;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;\"><div class=\"su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" style=\"background-color:#eaeaea;border-color:#ffffff;color:#333333;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;\">\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><i>&ldquo;I am not a fan of Amazon&hellip;I do shop with Walmart and Zulilly and will do so more often&hellip;&rdquo;<\/i><\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That means, as an e-commerce seller, you can potentially reach a very large audience by having an active listing on four of the six most popular platforms:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/blog\/selling-on-walmart-vs-amazon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Walmart.com<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/blog\/amazon-vs-ebay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">eBay.com<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecommercetrade.com\/how-to-get-your-products-listed-on-homedepot.com.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HomeDepot.com<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/blog\/how-to-sell-on-amazon-handmade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Etsy.com<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Target also allows third-party merchants to sell on its site. However, at this point in time it is by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalcommerce360.com\/2019\/02\/25\/target-launches-an-online-marketplace\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">invite-only<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Best Buy, on the other hand, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/consumerist.com\/2016\/02\/24\/best-buy-is-closing-website-to-third-party-sellers-today\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">closed its marketplace<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2018.)<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seller considerations: Novices and veterans<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you&rsquo;re new to e-commerce, choosing the right product essential to your success. Selling off Amazon, it&rsquo;s important that you find a product that is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/blog\/potential-amazon-niches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in high demand<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (and has low competition), but at a lower price point.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That&rsquo;s not all, though. In order to generate the shopper-enticing reviews you need, you also have to consider:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/blog\/advanced-amazon-customer-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If a product can be improved<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; if your research shows that the item already gets a 4.5 to 5-star rating, look for something else. But if the reviews say your competition&rsquo;s product needs changes, you may have found a contender.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/blog\/fba-shipping-checklist\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If there is a way for a product to ship faster<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; while a potential product&rsquo;s slower delivery time doesn&rsquo;t necessarily have to lead to its immediate axation from your list, keep in mind that people did indicate a preference for quick shipping. For that reason, you may want to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/blog\/sourcing-outside-of-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">look for manufacturers closer to home<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But if you&rsquo;re a veteran seller, just because you might have a large variety of products selling well on Amazon doesn&rsquo;t mean those same items will sell just as well elsewhere.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you expand your brand by listing on other e-commerce sites, make sure you&rsquo;re offering products that non-Amazon shoppers are looking for. Choose items from your existing catalog that:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Are high in demand and low in competition<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have a lower price point<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ship quickly<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Are high in quality and have special features<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seller considerations: All levels of experience<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No matter what your level of experience, look for products selling in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/blog\/recession-proof-business-and-product-ideas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">categories that maintain their popularity<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> regardless of what&rsquo;s going on in the world economically.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And when you&rsquo;re targeting non-Amazon shoppers, these are the categories to keep in mind:<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Popular<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/blog\/amazon-product-categories\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">product categories<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have either maintained or expanded their popularity during the most recent financial upheaval:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&lsquo;Grocery&rsquo; &ndash; 49% of consumers said their spending on these online products has remained the same throughout the COVID-19 pandemic<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&lsquo;Health &amp; Beauty&rsquo; &ndash; 48% maintained spending levels<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&lsquo;Clothing&rsquo; &ndash; 36% maintained spending levels<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&lsquo;Office Supplies&rsquo; &ndash; 33% maintained spending levels<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&lsquo;Cleaning Supplies&rsquo; &ndash; 34% said their online spending for cleaning supplies has increased<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><b>Unpopular<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Think twice before listing these types of products:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&lsquo;Exercise equipment&rsquo; &ndash; 55% of non-Amazon shoppers said they don&rsquo;t buy these items online.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&lsquo;Toys &amp; Games&rsquo; &ndash; 50% don&rsquo;t buy these online<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&lsquo;Pet Supplies&rsquo; &ndash; 43% don&rsquo;t buy these online<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&lsquo;Alcohol&rsquo; &ndash; 37% don&rsquo;t buy these online<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>TL;DR<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bottom line?
