But, when you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/fba-calculator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">calculate<\/a> the cost to store, package, and ship your products, the cost differential goes down significantly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Ultimately, though, how you fulfill your products is entirely up to you. According to eBay, sellers are given &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebay.com\/help\/selling\/fees-credits-invoices\/selling-fees?id=4364#section1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">250 zero (free) insertion fee listings<\/a>&rdquo; per month. And, if you run a store on the site, there is a possibility for more.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Final value fees<\/strong>: Once your product sells, eBay takes a percentage based on the item&rsquo;s final sale price. Optional upgrades include: adding bold font, adding a subtitle, and setting a minimum\/reserve price for your product.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you use any of eBay&rsquo;s listing upgrades, their fees quickly start to add up. However, you can use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebayfeescalculator.com\/usa-ebay-calculator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">eBay&rsquo;s fee calculator<\/a> to determine how much you&rsquo;ll be required to pay before you list your product.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, for a fixed-price product selling at $22.95 in the Baby category, eBay&rsquo;s fees come to $3.44. On top of that, if you planned on offering free shipping, you would have to absorb that cost.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nevertheless, eBay&rsquo;s fees are less than Amazon&rsquo;s overall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wolf-block wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-amazon-s-fees\"><strong>Amazon&rsquo;s fees<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>With Amazon, fees vary depending on the product being sold, and its fulfillment method; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/resources\/articles\/amazon-fba-vs-fbm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">either FBA or FBM<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To get an idea of the fees associated with a product being sold FBA, let&rsquo;s take a look at one of Jungle Scout&rsquo;s <a href=\"\/?page_id=26287\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Million Dollar Case Study<\/a> (MDCS) products: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B08Z5NYG12?ref=myi_title_dp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Washable Pee Pads<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, Washable Dog Pee Pads sell for $36.99. Using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/resources\/articles\/amazon-fba-fees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amazon&rsquo;s FBA calculator<\/a> (for the U.S. store) and entering that price point into the &lsquo;Item Price&rsquo; fields, we can get a good idea of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/resources\/articles\/amazon-fba-fees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the fees we&rsquo;d be charged<\/a> if we were selling the pee pad FBA versus FBM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: The total cost for &lsquo;Your Fulfillment&rsquo; (FBM) does not include shipping. The fee depends on the category of the product sold, though on average, you can expect to pay a 15% referral fee per sale.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fixed closing fee: <\/strong>&nbsp;This fee only applies if you have an individual selling plan, versus the professional selling plan. If you are an individual seller, you will pay an extra $0.99 per item sold.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>READ MORE | <a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/blog\/individual-vs-professional-seller-plans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amazon Individual vs. Professional Seller Plans<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wolf-block wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-fba-fees\"><strong>FBA fees<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>But, in addition to the &lsquo;Selling on Amazon fees&rsquo;, FBA sellers are also required to pay:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>FBA fulfillment fees: <\/strong>The FBA fees is what Amazon charges to fulfill the order of your product based on the products weight and size.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Monthly storage fees: <\/strong>Amazon charges monthly inventory storage fees for the space your inventory occupies in fulfillment centers and are calculated by your daily average volume in cubic feet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>So, if you offer a similar product as the pee pads on Amazon for $36.99 and are an FBA seller, you will have to pay a minimum of $14.59 in fees. And if you offer the same product, at the same price, as an FBM seller, you will have to pay a minimum of $6.54 in fees before shipping costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those aren&rsquo;t the only fees you&rsquo;ll have to pay as an Amazon seller, though. Regardless of your fulfillment method, all Amazon sellers have to pay the following feesl:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Individual per-item fees or subscription fees<\/strong>: When you sell on Amazon, you can choose between two different seller accounts: <a href=\"\/?p=22937\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">individual or professional<\/a>. If you sell as an individual, you will be required to pay a $0.99 fee per unit sold. Professional sellers, on the other hand, pay a monthly subscription fee of $39.99.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Refund administration fees:<\/strong> While these fees only come into play if a customer asks for a refund, it&rsquo;s still important to know that Amazon does charge you for processing that reimbursement. And while this may seem like something that solely benefits shoppers (much like Amazon&rsquo;s return policy), it is one of the primary reasons why Amazon has such a large, dedicated customer base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because shoppers pay a monthly fee to ensure speedy delivery, they&rsquo;re more likely to purchase from Amazon, rather than let their Prime subscription go to waste.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/resources\/articles\/seller-fulfilled-prime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">loyal Prime members<\/a> don&rsquo;t just go to Amazon first before trying other online stores; they also spend money on the site during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/resources\/articles\/ecommerce-calendar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">major holidays<\/a> like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/resources\/articles\/amazon-prime-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Black Friday<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/resources\/articles\/amazon-prime-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Prime Day<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And considering there are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/amazon-shopping-prime-membership-us-stopped-growing-first-time-ever-2023-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">over 168 million Prime users in the U.S.<\/a> alone (and <a href=\"https:\/\/backlinko.com\/amazon-prime-users\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">over 200 million worldwide<\/a>), that means sellers on the platform have immediate access to a massive audience that shops on the site regularly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wolf-block wp-block-heading toc-show\">What types of products can you sell on Amazon vs. eBay?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Since its launch in 1995, eBay has remained a marketplace for others to conduct their businesses. Amazon has not. Instead, it has morphed into a retailer, in addition to being a marketplace for third-party sellers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plus, unlike Amazon, eBay doesn&rsquo;t restrict what can be sold on the site based on a product&rsquo;s quality. From brand new products to threadbare used items, eBay sellers can sell virtually anything. (Obviously, illegal items are prohibited.)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And this is where eBay really comes into its own.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wolf-block wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-selling-used-products\">Selling used products<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Compared to Amazon (and even though you can buy used items on both), people prefer eBay when shopping for second-hand goods. Also, its auction model lends itself perfectly to selling used items, offering buyers a chance to purchase them at competitive prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The only real exception is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.junglescout.com\/blog\/how-to-sell-books-on-amazon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">selling used books<\/a>. For the most part, Amazon is the better marketplace for vendors looking to sell second-hand books (which makes sense, considering Amazon began as an online bookstore).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While eBay has been known as the platform to buy and sell used and unique items, nearly <a href=\"https:\/\/pages.ebay.com\/why-ebay\/#:~:text=You%20can%20get%20new%20and,even%20from%20the%20biggest%20brands!\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">80% of eBay&rsquo;s inventory<\/a> is brand new &ndash; so if you sell your own brand of products on Amazon, eBay is another opportunity to reach even more buyers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, when looking for an item that is brand new, or in pristine condition, most shoppers gravitate towards Amazon.
